Who is Thuan?

I was born in the Bay Area of California in a family full of designers and artists. Since childhood, I have always been raised in an artistic environment which has allowed me to appreciate art and design on multiple perspectives. This has given me the opportunity to connect with the culture on many different levels from cartoon to comic book style illustrations, graphic design, to product design and architecture. I have developed an eye for aesthetics and gained an in-depth understanding of how design not only creates culture and how it can also build unique and creative lifestyles.

As an industrial designer, my goal is to build and cultivate a progressive world where art and design can matter in people's lives. I am a firm believer that the sequential design process is essential to successful product creation. Furthermore, the right marketing and brand strategy encompassing a product life will allow it to flourish. In addition, I believe that good communication is extremely important in all phases of design, and the key to success!

Aside from art and design, my other interests consist of food culture, travel, science, health & fitness (specifically in cross-fit, body building and cycling), music production, dance and fashion. I continue to absorb the world and constantly anticipate new interests. It is important to me that we all learn as much as we can in this lifetime!

Design Thinking

As a designer, I understand that each project is unique and require different treatments depending on the nature of the product or objective. Some require more attention to the use-case and behavioral interactions while others may be as simple as redesigning an enclosure to revamp a product family. There is no right or wrong way of designing, but there are efficient ways of executing a design. Despite the levels of complexities, the one foundation that remains constant in the system architecture is the core experience of a product. Essentially, this should be the focus throughout the process. Prior to diving into design, the product core experience can be established through a mind map that I have created called "4 corners of design".
